Milk Kefir Yogurt
Milk kefir yogurt is probably one of my favorite yogurts. Its a bit more work to make than traditional homemade yogurt but well worth the extra hassle. Milk kefir is king when it comes to probiotics.
Yogurt pales in comparison with a mere 4-6 beneficial probiotics while milk kefir is teeming with 60-70 different strains of good bacteria and yeasts.
An important note about store bought milk kefir. It’s far inferior to homemade milk kefir made with grains and has roughly 12 or so beneficial probiotics. Where do you find these milk kefir grains? We offer 5 different types of milk kefir grains on our website which you can check out here.
With that being said let’s get started. I did not add any measurements partly because most are optional and personal preference. Here is what you’ll need:
Finished Milk Kefir
Sweetener (Stevia, sugar, ect)
Fruit
Granola
Yogurt Strainer or plastic strainer lined with coffee filters (we like the Kleynhuis Yogurt Strainer which can be found here. With additional information about the strainer found on our blog.)
Fine mesh sieve/nylon strainer
Medium sized bowl
Small sized bowl
Pour kefir into yogurt strainer or into a plastic strainer lined with coffee filters.
Place strainer over a bowl to catch the excess whey.
Strain in the fridge for 4-6 hours depending on preferred thickness.
To create a super smooth yogurt, scoop the strained yogurt into the fine mesh sieve and stir until the milk kefir starts to come through the bottom.
Save the excess whey and use that in smoothies for a probiotic boost. Now all that is left is to sweeten the yogurt and add your toppings. How is that for easy? How do you get your daily probiotics?
